Legal expert Juan Monteverde practices in New York City. He has spent his entire career protecting the interests of shareholders. Monteverde's current legal expertise was partly shaped by the work of Faruqi & Faruqi, a national company specializing in class action litigation for investors and consumers. The trial team consistently has excellent success thanks to the firm's commitment to sophisticated litigation in a wide range of critical stockholder-adjacent areas.

For three years, Monteverde worked as an associate at Levi & Korsinsky, focusing on cases involving mutual fund fraud, securities fraud, and consumer fraud. Other instances examined ERISA violations, the importance of shareholder rights during corporate takeovers, and different shifts in corporate ownership. He has prior experience working in civil litigation, namely with the liability defense firm Smith Mazure Director Wilkins Young & Yagerman. Construction law, civil rights litigation, and product liability were within his purview.

Monteverde worked as a summer associate at the law firm Diaz Reus LLP for three years while in law school. The firm is known for its creative strategies in commercial lawsuits and government investigations, and its customers include multinational corporations and major financial institutions.

Monteverde attended law school at St. Thomas University from 2003 till he graduated in 2005. He excelled in school and joined several clubs to acquire his Juris Doctor degree. He presided over significant publication choices as staff editor of the Law Review and was president of the Plead the 5th, Official Law School Newspaper. In his leisure time, he was a private tutor in constitutional law, real estate law, and legal ethics.

During the years 2000-2002, he attended California State University, Northridge, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in business and finance.

Juan Monteverde has maintained a prolific publication record throughout his academic and professional life. He is a frequent presenter at conferences devoted to merger cases and the issues surrounding CEO remuneration, as well as a prolific author on executive compensation.

Monteverde frequently gives to organizations he cares about, such as Planned Parenthood, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, UNIS, Harvest Central West, and other New York City food pantries.

Monteverde is admitted to practice law in New York and before the federal courts of appeals for the 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 9th circuits, as well as the Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of New York, the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the District of Colorado, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd, 5th, and 8th circuits.

Monteverde has been named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers every year since 2013 (2013, 2017, 2018, and 2019). The distinction of "Super Lawyer" in Securities Litigation was added to the roster of honors in 2022. Monteverde has been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell as a Preeminent Lawyer for the years 2017 through 2022.

As lead or co-counsel, Monteverde has been involved in several high-profile cases that resulted in substantial payouts.

In Re Envision Healthcare Inc., the parties settled for $17.4 million in cash in 2021. A $6.5 million payment settlement was reached in Riche v. Pappas, a case involving a geothermal buyout in the United States.

In the shareholder litigation case In Re Hansen Medical, Inc., in which Monteverde served as lead, he was able to get a post-closing cash settlement of $7,5 million. In Re Jefferies Group, Inc. Shareholders Lawsuit, where I was co-lead counsel, we settled the case for $70 million after it had already closed.

Monteverde is also the proud creator of the 9th Circuit's modernized regulation of shareholder lawsuits brought under 14(e) of the Exchange Act. In the case of Varjabedian v. Emulex Corp., 888 F.3d 399 (9th Cir. 2018), Monteverde obtained a dismissal of a writ of certiorari as improvidently granted at the United States Supreme Court, creating a 5 to 1 circuit split that lowered the standard of liability under Section 14(e) of the Exchange Act in the Ninth Circuit. In the case of Emulex Corp. v. Varjabedian, 139 S. Ct. 1405 (2019).

Despite his birthplace, Barcelona, Spain, Monteverde made New York City his professional home. He and his wife, Alexandra, spend their free time traveling and seeing the nation he loves so much.
